In Kyiv, officers from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained two people who were trying to sell 229,000 counterfeit dollars, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reports.

The agency said that the defendants set up an illegal business to buy counterfeit currency abroad and sell it in Ukraine.

“Two people were detained for selling counterfeit foreign currency. The perpetrators were a 42-year-old native of Luhansk region and a 34-year-old resident of Lviv region,” the statement reads.

The detainees were informed about the suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 2, 3 Article 199 of the Criminal code of Ukraine (storage, acquisition, transportation for the purpose of sale, and sale of illegally made counterfeit foreign currency, made repeatedly, by the preliminary conspiracy by group of persons, in especially large amounts).

The suspects face up to twelve years in prison with confiscation of property.

As it was reported earlier, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the suspicion of a “hired killer” who was recruited by the FSB of the Russian Federation to eliminate a Ukrainian special services agent.
