The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) counterintelligence officers detained a former member of the so-called Luhansk People's Republic illegal armed group. They took him in Luhansk region. The attacker tried to enter the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities to registrater for pension, the SBU press service reports.
The detainee took part in hostilities against the forces of the anti-terrorist operation.
According to the SBU, he joined the militants in March of 2015. There he was assigned to the so-called "4th Detached Motorized Infantry Brigade of Luhansk People's Republic", where he was engaged in the maintenance of military equipment.
Later, the attacker left the group and hid in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region.
Currently, the detainee has been informed about the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 260 (participation in the activities of armed groups not provided by law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of the court's choice of a measure of restraint in the form of detention is being resolved.
At the same time in Vinnytsia region, Ukrainian law enforcers detained an agent of the FSB of the Russian Federation, who was trained by terrorists in the temporarily occupied Donbas.
During the investigation, it was established that the citizen of Ukraine joined the illegal armed formations of the so-called Luhansk People's Republic and took part in the armed confrontation to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Also, he underwent combat training as part of a sabotage and reconnaissance group in the occupied territory of Luhansk region under the leadership of a former FSB officer with the call sign "Wild".
On the instructions of the Russian curators, the FSB agent moved to the peaceful territory of Ukraine to carry out reconnaissance missions.
As part of the criminal proceedings, SBU investigators informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing crimes under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 1 of Art. 111 (treason); Part 1 of Art. 258-3 (participation in a terrorist organization).
The issue of choosing a measure of restraint for him is being resolved.
As it was reported earlier, the SBU counterintelligence blocked the smuggling of metallic mercury from Transcarpathia to the EU. The substance could be used for mass chemical attacks.
