"Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine have found out that in illegal armed groups, the militant has learned the methods and skills of explosive and subversive operations,” the message reads.
It is reported that the saboteur was part of Poltinnik armed group and was on the occupied territory of Luhansk region. However, two years ago, for personal reasons, he left the territory liberated from the occupiers and hid at his wife’s place, or at acquaintances’ sheds and garages in Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Pryvillia, Novodruzhesk. He also lived in a tent in the woods in the outskirts of cities.
It is stated that the militant was detained at the place of his acquaintance in the village of Shepilove of Popasna district, where he went to change clothes before the meeting.
During the search, law enforcers seized a 9mm Schmeisser launch pistol with signs of alteration, a Nagant revolver of World War II period, around 50 rifle rounds of 7.62mm caliber, 18 rifle rounds of 9mm traumatic bullets, 3 bayonet knives of the rifle.
The detained militants also confessed he had mined the road to Soledar and bridges in Lysychansk, and blew up the Tomashivsky Bridge between Lysychansk and Severodonetsk.
The criminal case under Article 260 of the Criminal Code for creation of non-statutory paramilitary or armed formations and Article 263 the Criminal Code for unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives. Considering that the detainee was directly involved in the explosion of the bridge, the case is being investigated under Article for a terrorist act.
The investigation is ongoing.
As it was reported earlier, illegal armed groups in Luhansk region transferred 54 prisoners to Ukraine. These convicted Ukrainians were living on the territory of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia and Kirovohrad regions and Kyiv.
