Saakashvili’s case: Court appoints handwriting analysis

The Cassation Administrative Court of the Supreme Court commissioned an expert assessment of the handwriting of Mikheil Saakashvili, the former Georgia’s President and the leader of the United National Movement, in the statement on the granting of Ukrainian citizenship and allowed to involve a foreign expert in this, as Ruslan Chernolutskiy, Saakashvili’s lawyer, stated, Ukrainian News report.

“Today the Court appointed a handwriting analysis…Kyiv Research Institute of the forensic examination will do this. Additionally, the Court allowed to involve a foreign expert in this,” he said.

Earlier, Saakashvili’s lawyers stated that his signature on the application on the granting of Ukrainian citizenship was fake. According to them, Saakashvili mentioned the prosecution in Georgia in the actual application.

As it was reported earlier, Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, stopped Saakashvili’s Ukrainian citizenship with a decree issued on July 26, 2016. The Supreme Court started the consideration of the legitimacy of such decision. On February 12, 2018, the border guards expelled ex-President of Georgia from Ukraine to Poland within the readmission procedure.
