Former Head of Odesa Region Mikheil Saakashvili is detained on suspicion of aiding and abetting participants of a criminal group and abetting criminal activity. Ukraine’s Security Service reported that.
Saakashvili was served with charge papers.
“Mikheil Saakashvili was detained at the place of his residence by Ukraine’s Security Service and the Prosecutor General’s Office in frameworks of a criminal proceeding of abetting participants of a criminal group and abetting criminal activity,” reads the message.
The SBU adds that Saakashvili shall be interrogated at the near future.
According to Ukraine’s Criminal Code, Saakashvili is suspected of abetting a criminal group and concealing its criminal activity by providing it with premises, storages, vehicles, information, documents, technical devices, money, and securities.
The article stipulates three to five years in prison.
As we reported earlier, on December 5, an opposition politician Mikheil Saakashvili was detained after the country's General Prosecutor’s Office together with the Security Service of Ukraine conducted searches in his house.
Saakashvili himself got on the roof of the building threatening to jump down. A crowd of law-enforcers, journalists and Saakashvili's allies gathered near the house at Kostyolna street in the very downtown of Kyiv.
