The special services of Russia are trying to establish a connection with Mikheil Saakashvili and his ally Severion Dangadze, in order to find out the details of their dealings with Ukrainian businessman Serhiy Kurchenko, the prosecutor said in the court hearing on choosing a preventive measure for Saakashvili.
“Due to the activities on documenting the criminal activity of Kurchenko, who, under the instructions from the Security Service of Russia, financed Saakashvili and protests in Ukraine, the Russian special services are taking measures to get to Saakashvili and Dangadze through their trustees in Ukraine, so that they can identify the citizens of Russia, who may be involved in documenting the criminal activity of Kurchenko, Saakashvili, and Dangadze,” the prosecutor said, referring to the information by the Security Service of Ukraine.
He also emphasized that Russian special services might try to eradicate Saakashvili and Dangadze in order to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.
The prosecution says that this is the reason why they ask for a preventive measure of house arrest with an ankle monitor. They also want to name the witnesses whom Saakashvili will be allowed to contact with. The prosecutor doesn’t intend on forbidding Saakashvili to talk to his supporters.
As we reported the Pechersk Court of Kyiv intends to select a restrictive measure for the former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili today. The defence of Saakashvili applied to remove Oleksandr Hovorushchak, the prosecutor. The advocate insisted that the Criminal Proceeding Codex was violated. The judges left this application without satisfying. Moreover, the advocate confirmed that Saakashvili was served with charge papers with a violation. Also, there was the application to hold the court session at another courtroom with all journalists, MPs and public figures. However, this application was also left without satisfying.
