Russian court arrests Yatsenyuk in absentia

Russia hopes for Ukrainian politician to be detained in their territory or him being extradited to the Russian Federation

Essentuksky City Court in Russian Federation has arrested in absentia Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine, according to the message published on the court’s website.

"Pursuant to court order, pre-trial measure in the form of detention was chosen against Yatsenyuk, due to the fact that he was declared internationally wanted since February 21, 2017. It is specified that the term may be counted starting from the moment of defendant’s detention in Russian Federation or his extradition to the Russian Federation," the message reads.

At the same time, it is confirmed that Yatsenyuk is accused of participating in armed group, murder with aggravating circumstances, responsibility for preparation of crime and attempt to commit a crime under the Criminal Code of Russia.
