Russia prolongs investigation on captured Ukrainian sailors until spring

Investigation term is extended to May 25

The Russian Federation has prolonged the pre-investigation regarding captured Ukrainian crew members, Nikolai Polozov, lawyer of one of the sailors, stats as reported by Interfax. 

‘For the moment, the time limit on the investigation is renewed until May 25. At the same time, the investigation asks to extend the arrest term until late April,’ Polozov noted.

The lawyer assures the future term extension on the case depends on the intensity of the investigation acts. 

‘I can’t surely know how long the investigation would take. It depends on the volume of the investigation acts, the detectives don’t unveil their plans,’ he said.  

On November 25, the coast guard ships of the Russian Navy attacked the ships of the Ukrainian Navy, which have been carrying out a scheduled transition from Ukraine's Odesa port to Mariupol port in the Sea of Azov.

21 Ukrainian sailors have been delivered to Lefortovo remand center in Moscow, three others are in the hospital of Matrosskaya Tishina prison, also in the Russian capital. On December 3, the Russian prosecutors officially accused Ukrainian sailors of the 'illegal crossing of the state border' during the attack in the Kerch Strait.
