Ukrainian Parliament voted to appoint the new Prosecutor General of Ukraine. Ruslan Ryaboshapka, formerly the anti-corruption activist and one of the major figures in Servant of the People party, chaired the office. Ukrainian MPs supported his candidacy during the voting on Thursday night; 247 officials voted for the respective decision, with 226 necessary to pass.
Ryaboshapka, thus, replaces Yuriy Lutsenko who served as Prosecutor General since May 2016.
On August 29, members of the newly shaped Ukrainian Parliament gathered for the opening session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. On the very first work day, they dismissed the previous government, shaped the new Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk and fired Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko from his office.
