Defense “provides the possibility” of return of ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych as Radio Liberty reported citing his lawyer Vitaliy Serdyuk.
“At the moment, he temporarily stays in the territory of the Russian Federation. And the defense provides the measures, which will provide the possibility of his stay in the homeland. The main tasks, set by the client, particularly to provide the prosecution of the guilty in the surrender of Crimea, guilty in the commitment of the anti-constitutional seizure of power or coup d'état, are fulfilled by the defense,” the lawyer said.
Earlier, on February 26, Ukraine's court reported that five appeals were filed against the verdict for ex-President Viktor Yanukovych.
On March 5, Kyiv Court of Appeal returned Yanukovych case to Kyiv Obolon Court to correct the mistakes and explanation of the verdict.
The court found Yanukovych guilty of addressing Russian President Putin and asking him to deploy troops in Ukraine.
Besides, the court sentenced Yanukovych to 13 years in prison for the state treason and complicity in the holding of the aggressive war against Ukraine by the Russian Federation.
Yanukovych was charged with state treason, assistance in deliberate actions against Ukraine’s state border, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and assistance in leading the aggressive war against Ukraine.
