In Ukraine, on February 20, the Day of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes will be marked. Due to this fact, relatives of those deceased on Maidan stated that they oppose the protesters staying there on February 18-20 because it is planned to commemorate Heavenly Hundred Heroes. However, the entrepreneurs stated they ‘would like to stay in Maidan and mourn together’ as 112 Ukraine TV channel reported.
“They ask us to release Maidan on February 18-20 to commemorate deceased people. Among us, there are also relatives and close people of deceased in this Heavenly Hundred and it is also unutterable pain for us. We would like to be together here and mourn together,” entrepreneur Ulyana Tuz said.
She also added that from this day on, they do not turn music on in Maidan and she said that they cannot go away as they would not be allowed to come there anymore.
“We have continuous protest and we cannot break it,” Tuz said.
Recall, on February 18, 2014, after the activists refused to fulfill the ultimatum of the security forces to stop the resistance, one of the most bloody assaults on the Maidan began, which lasted until February 20 and ended with the shooting of "Heavenly Hundred."
In 2015, the Day of Heavenly Hundred Heroes was established by the order of fifth president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko ‘to immortalize great human, civilian and national bravery and dedication, the strength of spirit and firmness of the citizens, thanks to whom the march of history of our state was changed, worthy of the celebration of feat of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes who laid down their lives during the Revolution of Dignity (November 2013 - February 2014), defending the ideals of democracy, rights and freedoms of a human, the European future of Ukraine’.
