‘Red’ level of danger declared in some Ukrainian regions due to heavy snowfalls

Due to the bad weather and heavy snowfalls in Odesa and Mykolaiv regions, the rescuers declared the ‘red’ level of danger as the Emergency Service of Ukraine reported.

“Thus, in Odesa, Mykolaiv regions, [we observe] the extraordinary snowfall (growth of snow cover 30-40 cm), the wind speed increased up to 15-20 m/s, heavy snowstorm, snowbanks, wet-snow accretion (III level of danger, ‘red’); in Kyrovohrad region – heavy wet snow (growth of snow cover 20-3- cm), wet-snow accretion (II level of danger ‘orange’),” the message said.

The rescuers warn drivers about icy roads. The deterioration of weather conditions might lead to the stop of traffic and power blackouts in the settlements.

In Odesa region, truck traffic is banned on local roads and state roads M-15 Odesa-Reni and M-16 Odesa-Kuchurgan. In Mykolaiv region, truck traffic is banned at M-13 highway, Kropyvnytsky-Platonovo.

As we reported, to date, Ukraine is going through an active snow cyclone that caused severe weather conditions and led to emergencies in the southern part of the country. In some areas, the height of snowdrifts reached 1.5 meters.
