Rector of Hungarian institute in Berehove summoned to Ukraine's Security Service

One of the leader of the Hungarian community in Zakarpattia, the deputy of the Regional Council, the rector of the Hungarian Institute in Berehove Ildikó Oros, was summoned to Ukraine’s Security Service for her statement about infringement of Hungarians in Ukraine in “fascist ways”, as Mukachevo.net reported referring to Oros.

She delivered a speech on October 23 in Budapest, when she stated that the Hungarians are being infringed in fascist ways in Ukraine, because of what she was summoned. According to the news agency, the Security Service has conducted a conversation with the rector concerning this speech.

As Mukachevo.net reported, Ildikó Oros comments on this situation were published on some Hungarian websites.

“In general, she provided an explanation, that she was guided by her thoughts. She went to Budapest by invitation, to honor the victims of the Hungarian revolution in 1956,” the message says.

As we reported, Hungary has changed the name of “the minister for Zakarpattia.” The decision was published by the Hungarian Justice Ministry on October 29.

Earlier, Ukrinform agency published a video where a few Ukrainians receive the Hungarian passports and owe allegiance to Hungary in the Consulate in Berehove, Zakarpattia region, western Ukraine. The Hungarian diplomat recommended not to inform the Ukrainian authorities about receiving the new documents.

Yuriy Lutsenko, Prosecutor General, claimed that Ukraine's Security Service investigates this case; however, the service denied this.

Tamás Menczer, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Spokesperson, later reported that Hungary would not withdraw its consul from Berehove due to the scandalous video about the issuance of Hungarian passports to the Ukrainians.

In its turn, Ukraine claimed that in case the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary does not withdraw their consul from Berehove, the Ukrainian side will offer him to abandon the territory.
