The rapid antigen tests will be added to PCR test for coronavirus as 112 Ukraine TV channel reported citing Health Minister Maksym Stepanov.

According to him, as soon as they are supplied to Ukraine, they will be allocated between the hospitals to increase the total number of tests.

“During the past 24 hours, 57,331 tests were held. 34,295 of them were PCR tests; while 23,036 are ELISA tests. You see that we increase the number of tests. Yesterday, we held 32,000; today we have 34,000 PCR tests. We will continue to increase the number of these tests,” the minister specified.

He noted that during the past six months, the number of tests increased significantly. Thus, at the beginning of April, about 200 PCR tests were held. Besides, the number of beds increased – from 12,000 up to 37,000.

“We have a lot of politicians before the elections who score points through Covid-19. They promote themselves, tell, fantasize, how many tests they would hold; how it is possible to hold a million tests per day. Believe me, if we had a possibility to hold at least 100,000 tests per day, we would do it,” Stepanov said.

As of the morning of October 8, the number of people infected with coronavirus in Ukraine was 244,734. Over the last 24 hours, 5,397 new cases of Covid-19 were observed. Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 4,690 people have died due to complications caused by the disease (+93), and 108,233 patients (+ 2263 during the day) have managed to recover.
