Rally in support of Ukrainian journalists held near NewsOne TV channel

A rally is held near NewsOne TV channel building in support of the journalists after Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Office registered a criminal proceeding on state treason attempt over TV channel’s intentions to set a telethon with a Russian TV channel, 112 Ukraine reported.

According to Vadym Rabinovich, the Co-Chairman of Opposition Platform – For Life party, 3,000-4,000 people will participate in the rally.

The participants of the event are holding posters with signs: “We won’t let them shut free media”, “Lutsenko (Ukraine’s Prosecutor General, - ed.), arrest Svynarchuk and Poroshenko”, “Burning books and TV channels – is it freedom?”.

The representatives of Opposition Platform – For Life take part in the rally.

Prosecutor Generals’ Office of Ukraine (GPU) registered a criminal proceeding on an attempt to commit the state treason due to the plans of the Ukrainian TV channel NewsOne to hold telecast with the Russian TV channel. 

We Need to Talk telecast was the project initiated by NewsOne and Russia24 TV channels. The event was to be aired on Friday, July 12.

The management of NewsOne TV channel stated that there will be no We Need to Talk telecast withRussia24 channel. There were statements about arranging rallies near the TV channel's building. On late July 7, these statements were followed by threats to assail reporters and their families.

On July 8, NewsOne TV channel canceled the telecast due to the threats of the physical harm over the journalists.
