The forest service and police created the raiding groups in the Carpathians to protect spruce stands and prevent illicit logging as Hrynyavske forestry, Verkhovyna area, Ivano-Frankivsk region reported on Facebook.

It is noted that the forest service holds raids to detect illicit logging of New Year trees. Particularly, the employees of the forest service detected a ‘New Year trees’ poacher in Hostivetsk forestry on December 21. They compiled an administrative protocol toward the perpetrator and he paid fined.

“The foresters reminds that the unauthorized logging of New Year trees, in accordance with article 65, the Administrative Code of Ukraine, leads to the administrative fine in the sum of 510-1,020 hryvnia ($18-35) for citizens and 850-5,100 ($29-179) for officials per tree and indemnification of losses depending on the diameter of a stub,” the message said.

As we reported, the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine has launched an environmental campaign "Christmas tree - 2021", during which the inspectorate, law enforcement bodies, and local governments will strengthen control over the legal sale of Christmas trees.
