Ukraine has affiliated with the joint statement of the UK, Canada and Sweden toward the downing of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) PS752 flight by Iran as the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine reported.
“In February, Special Rapporteurs Agnes Callamard and Javaid Rehman released a letter sent to the government of Iran, which outlined a number of very serious allegations. The main of their concerns is that the right to life of the 176 passengers and crew members was violated. We proceed from the fact that Iran has not responded to this letter. Iran’s alleged violation of these human rights obligations is extremely worrying. This is compounded by allegations of entirely unacceptable harassment and threats made against family members of some of the victims,” the joint statement says.
Due to this fact, Ukraine, the UK, Canada and Sweden urged Iran to:
- Reply to the letter as soon as possible and certainly in advance of the Interactive Dialogue with Special Rapporteur Callamard at HRC47.
- Immediately stop any harassment and intimidation of the victims’ families, both in Iran and elsewhere.
- Ensure a full and transparent criminal investigation and impartial judicial proceedings as part of their obligation to provide justice for the victims of this tragedy.
- Provide a comprehensive account of the events that led to this tragedy. Iran owes answers to the families and to the world”.
In February, two UN experts stated that Iran committed numerous violations of human rights by downing PS752 flight of Ukraine International Airlines and after the deadly crash.
As we reported earlier, on January 8, Boeing 737 of Ukraine's International Airlines (PS 752 flight) with 176 passengers aboard crashed in Tehran, not far from Imam Khomeini airport.
11 citizens of Ukraine died in the crash. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the passenger plane crash in the Iranian capital had left no survivors.
On the morning of Saturday, January 11, the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces announced that a missile launched by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards military center hit the Ukrainian Boeing 737 plane.
The results of the decryption of information from the aircraft's flight recorders carried out in France confirmed that the disaster was the result of a missile attack.
On February 20, the Iranian Military Prosecutor's Office announced the completion of the investigation into the downing of Ukraine International Airlines plane.
