Protests, flares, enhanced security near Russian diplomatic establishments in Ukraine

The protests against Azov crisis took place in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Kharkiv

The protests take place near the building of the Russian diplomatic establishments in Ukraine due to the actions of the Russian law enforcers near Kerch Strait.

Earlier it was reported that the night protest took place near the Embassy of Russia in Kyiv. The smoke bombs were thrown at the building, it was blanketed with smoke. The significant number of the law enforcers were diverted but the number of the protesters was many times greater. Moreover, a car of the Russian diplomats was burned not far from the Embassy. The rescuers arrived at the site and put out the fire, the police find out the reasons for the ignition.

There were no protesters near the building of the Embassy in the morning, on November 26 as 112 Ukraine correspondent reported. A few dozens of the law enforcers covered all the perimeter, the fire truck was spotted near the building.  

The protest took place near the Embassy of Russia in Odesa. About a hundred people participated in it. Anyone came out to the protesters. Some partakers of the protest taped a fence with blue and yellow stickers. The clashes also took place, the firecrackers were used. Besides, the “bloody telnyashkas" (blue-and-white striped shirts, sailors' shirts - Ed.) were brought to the building and hang at the fence.

Head of the Preventive Activities Department of Regional Chief Committee of the Police Ivan Ishchenko confirmed the enhanced regime of the work of the law enforcers and emphasized that the protesters did not possess the banned items.

“The diplomatic establishment will be protected by the police and National Guard round-the-clock,” he said.

The entry to the street where the establishment is situated is closed by the police. One of the demands of the protesters is the liquidation of the consulate.

According to the correspondent from Odesa, the local citizens gathered near headquarters of “South” to express the support to the Ukrainian soldiers. They brought the flags and posters. Some of the partakers intend to move to the Russian consulate after the protest.

The protests also took place near the Russian Consulate in Kharkiv. According to the local media, the protesters, including the representatives of the far-right organizations, demand the release of the Ukrainian sailors captured in Azov.  About 60 protesters gathered there; about 100 law enforcers situated near the building.

Initially, the protesters set up the tent for the “round-the-clock duty” and lit the flares. Then they started to throw the pyrotechnics over the fence and the fire occurred at the territory of the consulate.

Kharkiv journalist Oleg Skrypnyk reported to 112 Ukraine that the tires, Russian flags were burnt near the embassy and one of the thrown flares reached the thuja and it caught fire.

“Everything was calm; there were no provocations against the police. The tires were doused with acetone; if I am not mistaken, the police pushed the protesters and extinguished the tires,” he said.

The most secure situation was observed near the Russian Consulate in Lviv. The building was guarded by a few law enforcers, the protests did not take place. The main events took place at night; the local citizens came to the building to express the protests against the actions of Russia.

“People brought the paper ships, and then they burnt the tires, sang the anthem of Ukraine and insurgent songs. Generally, about 30 people participated in the peaceful protest,” the local mass media reported.

The Russian Foreign Ministry urged Kyiv to provide the security of the Russian diplomats “to avoid the grave consequences.”

As we reported earlier, the coast guard ships of the Russian Navy acted aggressively against the ships of the Ukrainian Navy, which have been carrying out a scheduled transition from Odesa port to Mariupol port in the Sea of Azov.   

Kyiv demands from Moscow to immediately provide the medical service to the wounded sailors and provide them urgent return to the Ukrainian territory. According to the Naval Forces of Ukraine, six sailors are wounded and two of them are in the critical condition.

Kyiv urgently convened the UN Security Council because of the aggravation in the Sea of Azov. The Russians shelled and seized the vessels of the Ukrainian Naval Forces “Berdyansk”, “Nikopol,” and “Yany Kapu,” which passed from Odesa (the Black Sea) to Mariupol (the Sea of Azov), moving through Kerch Strait. The state of 23 Ukrainian sailors is unknown.

Russian authorities said that three Ukrainian warships in the Sea of Azov illegally entered the territorial waters of the Russian Federation and headed to the Kerch Strait. 

The boats of the Russian Border Guard Service opened fire on the ship group of the Ukrainian Navy, which was moving towards the exit from the Kerch Strait.

Given the tough situation in the area of Kerch Strait in the Sea of Azov, President Petro Poroshenko supported the offer of Ukraine's national security and defense council; it stipulates that the Ukrainian Parliament should consider the option to impose the martial law in Ukraine.
