The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) has opened criminal proceedings against former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Ryaboshapka. Livyi Bereh news agency reports this with reference to its sources in the authority.
The cases are opened under two articles: Art. 366-1 - "Declaration of Inaccurate Information" and part 4 of Art. 368 - "Acceptance of an offer, promise, or receipt of undue remuneration by an official".
"We complied with the decision of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court and entered the data into the unified register of pre-trial investigations under Articles 366-1 and 368, Part 4," the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office press service noted.
Ryaboshapka noted that he became aware of the corresponding decision of the SAP several days ago.
"I know as much as you do. That there was a court decision and the SAP ordered that the proceedings be opened. At first they refused, and then they ordered through the court. This is a standard procedure," he said.
Ryaboshapka also said that he had not seen the statement of the ex-Prosecutor General, which would let him open a criminal proceeding.
As we reported before, Ukraine's Prosecutor General didn't survive a vote of no confidence in the parliament. 263 MPs voted in favor of his dismissal during the extraordinary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.
