Prosecutor General's Office stops investigation against sniper suspected in Maidan activist murder

Prosecutor General's Office stopped the criminal proceeding related to sniper Dmytro Khmel; he is the ex-fighter of Omega special force unit of the National Guard of Ukraine and the current suspect in the murder of Maidan activist on Instytutska Street in Kyiv. The Ukrainian News reported that referring to the court information. 

According to the documents, the investigation was stopped in August. 

"16.08.2019, by a decision of the investigator in the criminal proceeding agreed with the Prosecutor, the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceeding is stopped, based on article No. 280 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine due to existing necessity of implementation of legal proceeding within international cooperation. Particularly, a request on the international legal assistance is sent to the Swiss Confederation as of 12.06.2019," the document reads.

It is reported that currently, fulfillment of the request on international legal assistance is being continued by Swiss authorities. 

The suspected is obliged to be under the night house arrest until November 28 and wear an electronic bracelet. 

The law enforcers detained Khmel on October 31, 2018.
