Kyiv Administration gathers the signatures of prominent sportsmen and stars of world football under the statement with a demand to release Oleg Sentsov, Ukrainian writer and film director, immediately, as the press office of Kyiv’s Mayor reports.
The part of the signatures was collected during the tournament of UEFA Champions, which took place within the Champions League final on Kyiv central street – Khreshchatyk.
The letter was signed by former player of Ukraine’s football team Yevhen Levchenko, Iya Andrushchak, UEFA Champions League Ambassador, Andriy Shevchenko, Ukraine’s team head coach, William Wingrove, British freestyle footballer, Jeremie Lynch, Jamaican international footballer, Marcel Desailly, a retired French footballer, Stanley Collymore, English footballer, José Bosingwa, Portuguese footballer, Volodymyr Klitschko, Ukrainian boxer, and many other sportsmen.
The statement is opened for the signatures.
Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov has announced a hunger strike on May 16. This way, he demands that all Ukrainians detained in Russia and annexed Crimea be released. Sentsov said he was ready to die if the requirements were not fulfilled.
As it is known, Ukrainian movie director Oleg Sentsov and Crimean activist Oleksandr Kolchenko were detained by the Russian FSB in the annexed Crimea. Both were taken to Russia. Sentsov was charged with preparing a terrorist act in Crimea and sentenced to 20 years in the high-security penal colony. Kolchenko was sentenced to ten-years-long imprisonment.
