Return of Russia to G7 depends on the progress in the political process in Ukraine as Reuters reported citing French diplomatic source.

“We have taken note that the Americans want to reintegrate them next year. Ukraine is vital. There is a context that could be favorable to some progress,” the message said.

French President Emmanuel Macron offered U.S. President Donald Trump to invite Russia at G7 summit in 2020. Trump supported this idea.

Thus, Trump and Macron held phone talk and decided that they would like to invite Russia at G7 summit the next year. It is expected that Trump will discuss this issue with other world leaders on the weekends at G7 in Biarritz.

Besides, Donald Trump stood for Russia attending the G7 summit during the previous summit in Canada. The majority of other G7 countries did not support this idea excluding Giuseppe Conte, the Prime Minister of Italy.

Russia was expelled from the G8 after Crimea’s annexation in 2014.
