Ukraine and Donbas militants have finished exchanging prisoners, as Iryna Lutsenko, the representative of the President in the Parliament, wrote on Facebook.

74 Ukrainians were exchanged, as planned.

“Good news that we can already speak of. The process of exchange has finished. The Ukrainian side received 74 captives, who had been imprisoned in the occupied part of Donbas. They are returning home,” she wrote.

It was envisaged that 74 Ukrainians would be exchanged for 306 militants. However, a number of people whom the militants had requested to release refused to return to the militant-controlled territory. This way, 165 people were sent to the DNR instead of 207, because a few dozens of people from the militant list had already been released from imprisonment in Ukraine and are free now. As to the LNR, 73 militants were exchanged for 16 Ukrainians (there were 99 on the list).

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak have arrived to Donbas to meet the released Ukrainians.
