The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine (SAPO) have finished the pretrial investigation against ex-judge of Dniprovsky district court of Kyiv Mykola Chaus as the NABU reported on Telegram.
“On August 6, 2021, the defense has received access to the materials of the criminal proceeding for familiarization before the sending of the indictment to the court. The suspect was called for questioning by the NABU. Meanwhile, he refused from testimony,” the message said.
The NABU also noted that the investigation has collected enough evidence for compiling of indictment against Chaus. Moreover, the Bureau has published the video with the investigative actions held by the Ukrainian law enforcers within the case.
In the video, Chaus agrees on the bribe, and law enforcers seize money hidden by the judge.
Earlier, it was reported that former judge Mykola Chaus kidnapped in Moldova was found only underpants in the village of Mazurivka, Vinnytsa region not far from the border with Moldova. When Chaus arrived in the police unit, he reported that he was abducted by unknowns.
According to the lawyer of the judge, he did not get in touch with Chaus as he was taken to Kyiv.
Later, the NABU made it clear that Chaus was detained. However, nobody contacted the detectives to pass them the suspect.
Later, mass media reported that Chaus was detained by employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and he was taken to Kyiv. The NABU also confirmed this information and published a video “chasing” the SBU car. The NABU stated that Chaus was in one of the cars.
On August 2, the lawyer of ex-judge Mykola Chaus stated that he prepares an appel on a change of investigative jurisdiction.
On August 3, the High Anti-Corruption Court holds the session on the consideration of the restrictive measure for ex-judge of Dniprovsky district court of Kyiv Mykola Chaus. Later, the lawyers of Mykola Chaus have used the right for judge rejection.
On August 4, the court has declined the appeal of the defense of Mykola Chaus on the judge rejection. Later, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine chose a restrictive measure for ex-judge Mykola Chaus.
