The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine proposes to establish the Volunteer of the Year award of the President of Ukraine. The relevant presidential decree draft was approved at a government meeting.
It is noted that this award is proposed to establish to promote the development and promotion of volunteering, support community initiatives for volunteering and honoring volunteers who have made a significant contribution to the development of the volunteer movement.
The explanatory note states that the draft act is designed to properly celebrate citizens who provide volunteer assistance in such socially important areas as:
- providing volunteer assistance to support the poor, unemployed, large families, homeless people in need of social rehabilitation;
- caring for the sick, citizens with disabilities, single people, the elderly and other citizens who, due to their physical, material or other characteristics, need support and assistance;
- providing assistance to citizens affected by man-made or natural disasters, special period actions, legal regimes of emergency or martial law, anti-terrorist operations, measures to ensure national security and defense, cutting off and deterring armed aggression of the Russian Federation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
If the President signs this decree, the Cabinet of Ministers will develop a procedure for appointing and paying the bonus within three months.
Earlier it was reported that servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense were paid a cash prize on the occasion of the Day of Defenders of Ukraine. The military received 2,500 hryvnias ($95) each.
