The Office of the President supports the suspension or dismissal of Yevhen Metzger from the position of Chairman of the Board of Ukreximbank after the attack on 'Schemes' journalists. This was announced by an adviser to the Chair of President's Office Mykhailo Podoliak, as the OP press service reports.
"The situation around Ukreximbank can be perceived only negatively. Of course, the model of behavior that society has seen from the bank's representatives is unacceptable. Freedom of speech is one of the fundamental values in Ukraine. Therefore, the duty of officials at any level is to respect their right to ask any questions of public importance, no matter what level the structure is in question and whether the structure operates in the public or private sector. Rules for respecting journalistic work and formats for providing access to socially important information have long been established, and there cannot be a reason not to follow them, "he said.
Podoliak noted that the National Police and the Supervisory Board of Ukreximbank had made statements, the police had initiated criminal proceedings and were analyzing all the circumstances of the incident. In his opinion, the decision to remove the chairman of the bank's board from office seems logical.
Reporters of the Schemes project got attacked in the office of Ukreximbank. After the incident, they managed to restore the video record of this incident. Natalya Sedletska, the leading journalist of the Schemes (Skhemy) reported that on Facebook.
According to her, the restored video features the entire footage of the incident. That included the interview, the reporter's questions and everything that happened then. One can see Metsger demanding that the security take the cameras from reporters, "get the tapes and ***ing delete it all".
