The Office of the President initiates the creation of the Council on Freedom of Speech under the President of Ukraine, as Deputy Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko said during experts sitting “Freedom of speech and informational security of Ukraine: challenges and solutions,” the press office of the Head of State reported.
“The dialogue with the media community is important for us as we launch the work of the Council. It will be assembled regularly,” Tymoshenko said.
According to him, the representatives from central media editorial staff will join the Council.
The representatives of the President’s Office expect that the Council will help to fix and to address threats to freedom of speech, the manifestation of censorship. Besides, the protection of the journalists’ right for profession is among priorities. The representatives of the law enforcement agencies and media lawyers will join the Council.
As it was reported, in April Reporters Without Borders international organization published an annual index of media freedom in the world as of 2019. Ukraine got the 102nd place in the rating, which is by one step lower in comparison with the index of the previous year.
