In a week, it will become clear whether or not the lockdown should be introduced in Ukraine. The proper decision will be made considering the results of the weekend quarantine or their absence as Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko said.
“We are trying to contain the growth of Covid-19 incidence to stabilize the situation. During this time – increase the number of beds with oxygen and other equipment. Possibly, we will introduce the lockdown after the third weekend on quarantine and we will make a decision,” Tymoshenko said.
He added that all decisions are made after consultations with local authorities.
Tymoshenko stated that in the case of the introduction of lockdown, the citizens would be warned on the eve of that decision.
Earlier, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov stated that the introduction of a total lockdown could reduce the overall number of coronavirus cases in Ukraine to zero. On the other hand, the economic point of view must be taken into account. According to the official, the reason for the introduction of lockdown will be the epidemic situation and the burden on the medical system.
Over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian doctors recorded 16,218 new cases of infection with coronavirus. 693,047 people got sick with Covid-19 in Ukraine since the pandemic reached this country. 326,238 recovered since then (+8,843 during 24 hours), and 11,909 died (+192).
