Ukraine's presidential aspirant thanked Ukrainians for support at the first round of the presidential elections

Petro Poroshenko, who occupies the second place at the first round of the presidential elections, according to all exit polls, thanked the Ukrainians for support as 112 Ukraine reported.

“I would like to thank the voters, who quickly figured out the intricacies and 39 candidates, despite the tons of mud coming from the fifth column of Russia or channels of the fugitive oligarch and those, who strongly supported the membership of Ukraine to NATO, EU and independence from Russia not waiting for the second round. I thank for all these votes. I thank for this support,” Poroshenko stated.

Ukraine’s president also stated that he plans to prepare Ukraine for entrance into NATO until the end of the second tour of the presidential elections.

“The Membership Action Plan should be signed until 2023. I will raise this issue in December 2019 at the NATO summit in London. It is real to begin the negotiations on the entrance into the EU in 2023 after the achievement of the EU criteria for membership by Ukraine,” Poroshenko noted.

The second tour of the elections should take place on April 21 if any of the candidates gain over 50% of the votes during the first round.

As we reported the exit polls showed that Volodymyr Zelensky confidently wins in the first round of the presidential elections. According to 112 Ukraine exit poll, Zelensky got 30,7%, Poroshenko received 18,6% and Tymoshenko has 13,9% votes.

The election campaign has officially started on December 31, 2018. There are 39 candidates in the ballots and over 35.6 million voters. Over 315,000 of the voters changed the place of the registration for voting.
