President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko commemorated the victims of Holodomor of 1932-1933, according to the president’s press service.

The president put an arrangement of spikelets and viburnum at the monument to Holodomor. Viburnum is a symbolic plant in Ukraine, while spikelets signify the Law of Three Spikelets – Soviet policy enforced in the time of Holodomor, which punished anyone stealing even a few spikelets of “common” grain by being sent to a forced-labour camp or even death.

All the crops were collected, counted, and taken away, leaving millions of people to starve to death.
