President Petro Poroshenko instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to check all government officials, especially from the law enforcement agencies, for the presence of relatives with Russian citizenship. He stated this during a press conference in Kyiv, which was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.
"We have a large number of civil servants, including in law enforcement agencies, who have relatives in Crimea. I appealed to the chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine for Ukrainian counterintelligence to check the information of these civil servants, prioritizing law enforcement and investigative bodies. As soon as the inspection is completed and I have grounds, I will act," he said.
Earlier Counterintelligence of Ukraine's Security Service confirmed the presence of Russian citizenship of the civil wife of the Foreign Intelligence Service First Deputy Head Serhiy Semochko. In this regard, the investigation petitioned the court for access to information about conversations of Semochko and his relatives.
National Anti-Corruption Bureau opened criminal proceedings against Semochko under the article "Illegal enrichment" based on the results of a journalistic investigation. The October 1 issue of the Nashi Groshi program presented the results of a journalistic investigation, according to which Serhiy Semochko owns expensive homes in Kozyn and a Land Cruiser.
