The possibility of signing of the contract for the transit of the natural gas with Russian Gazprom from January 1, 2020, is very low as Interfax-Ukraine reported, citing Naftogaz-Ukraine Head Andriy Kobolev.
“We can say that the possibility of signing of the transit contract from January 1 exists but it is very very low. With each passing moment, it approaches zero,” Kobolev stated.
Besides, he noted that the possibility that the contract on the transit of the Russian gas through Ukraine will not be signed until the end of the year is still high; however, the discussion of it may renew in April-May 2020.
“I hope that even if a contract is not signed now then in April-May we will return to this discussion with Russian and European sides,” he underlined.
On December 13, Executive Director of Naftogaz-Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko announced the achievement of preliminary agreements with Gazprom on the extension of gas transit. He added that while the date of the next meeting is unknown, it will depend on progress in the negotiations.
Earlier, Vice President of European Commission Maroš Šefčovič reported that the trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and EU on the transit of the Russian gas through Ukrainian territory will take place on December 19 in Brussels.
As we reported, CEO of Naftogaz Andriy Kobolev will meet with CEO of Gazprom Alexey Miller during the trilateral gas negotiations in Brussels on October 28.
