Poroshenko withdraws draft law on denial of Ukrainian citizenship for voting in election in Crimea

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has withdrawn the draft law that provides the revoking of the Ukrainian citizenship for the participation in so-called Russia's election at the territory of annexed Crimea.

The proper changes dated May 16, 2018.

As we reported the Verkhovna Rada documented presidential bill, which provides depriving of Ukrainian citizenship for voting in the so-called elections in annexed Crimea on April 20.

On March 18, 2018, at the fourth anniversary of the annexation, the election of the president of Russia took place there.

President Putin beat a record of the support, receiving 56.2 million of votes or 76.65 percent of votes, with 99% ballots processed. 

Refat Chubarov, the Chairman of Crimean Tatar Mejlis reported on the low turnout in Crimea. According to Russia's Central Election Committee, 1, 079, 531 persons participated in the election.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recognized the Russian election in Crimea illegal and doubted the legitimacy of the election.
