Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko wishes fellow citizens to feel like true people’s diplomats during Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. Head of State gave his statement on the occasion of the start of the contest, according to presidential press service.
Poroshenko stresses that Ukraine joined this contest much later than other countries, but it hosts the Eurovision for the second time already.
"It is a deeply symbolic coincidence that exactly in the days of the Eurovision, the Council of the European Union will adopt a final decision as regards visa-free regime. Remember this date — June 11. Starting from this date Ukrainian citizens will get an opportunity to travel to the EU countries without visas. This is the first significant result of the reforms held in Ukraine during the last three years," president notes.
I wish all of us, Ukrainians, to feel like true people’s diplomats these days as so many foreign guests came to Kyiv. Let us do everything for them to come back home with the best impressions from our country," Head of State addresses fellow citizens.
President expresses his conviction that no matter which country wins the contest, it will be a triumph of European values, European unity, European solidarity.
The official ceremony of Eurovision-2017 opening will take place in Kyiv today, May 7 at 5 p.m., during which 42 delegations of country-participants in the song contest will be walking the red carpet.
