The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked the European allies for their support of Ukraine and urged them to make the real steps – to take all the necessary measures to influence the aggressor, as he wrote on Facebook.
“Thank our European allies for the long-awaited position in defense of Ukraine and condemnation of Russia’s actions against the Ukrainian sailors in Azov Sea and Kerch Strait despite the acting bilateral agreements and international law,” Poroshenko said.
The Head of the State noted that he appreciated the consolidated call of the EU to the Kremlin to provide an immediate and unconditional release of the Ukrainian sailors.
“I urge the EU member stated to move from declarations to real steps and take all required measures to influence the aggressor, including tightening of the sanctions to cease Russia’s “crawling annexation” of the Sea of Azov and Kerch Strait and restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity. I also expect a resolute consolidated response of the G7 with the assessment of aggressor’s criminal behavior,” Poroshenko said.
Earlier, the EU Spokesperson Mogherini condemned Russia’s actions in Kerch Strait and called for the release of the Ukrainian sailors.
Kyiv District Court of the occupied Simferopol arrested all the captured Ukrainian sailors for two months.
