Poroshenko to address UN General Assembly on September 26

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will address the meeting of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on September 26. Volodymyr Yelchenko, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to UN claimed this as 112.ua reported.

“As for today, Poroshenko has conditionally such time-frame: from September 24 until September 27. Of course, it will be confirmed. On September 26, our president will address the UNGA right after the lunch break,” Yelchenko claimed.

Poroshenko will also talk about Holodomor during the speech.

“I think the president will definitely remember Holodomor issue as this year marks the 85th anniversary of this tragedy. During this session we will try to prepare and adopt the special declaration at the UNGA dedicated to this event,” Yelchenko said.

Also, the president will meet the UN Secretary-General and Chairman of the UNGA.

“Moreover, the president will meet the UN Secretary-General and Chairman of the UNGA. This year it is the Foreign Minister of Ecuador. Today all bilateral meetings are negotiated. I think, there will be a few dozens of meetings,” Yelchenko claimed.

Towards the plans of the Ukrainian delegation on the future initiatives, Yelchenko announced “a few unpleasant surprises” for the Russian delegation.

“We prepare a number of the initiatives to the UNGA and I cannot disclose them. You know, our powerful northern neighbor just waits for this. But as I said in the last year and a year before, a few unpleasant surprises are waiting for them. They concern Crimea, Donbas, issues with the conditional name “Militarization of Crimea,” he said.

Ukraine’s representative to the UN also added that the issue of the political prisoners will be raised at the resolutions.

“A few new elements will be at the current resolutions, the most important of them is the issue of the political prisoners detained in Crimea and Russia. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these 70 people from our hostages’ list are the citizens of Crimea, beginning, of course, with Sentsov,” Yelchenko said.

The 73rd UN General Assembly will open on September 18.

According to the speaking program published in the headquarters of the World organization, the plenary meeting of the high level is to be held on September 24. It will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the most famous fighters for human rights Nelson Mandela.

The speeches of the leaders of the countries and heads of the delegation will begin on September 25 and will last until October 1.

Earlier we reported that Poroshenko plans to visit New York in September and take part in the meeting of the UNGA.
