The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked Ukraine’s international partners for the support at the session of the UN Security Council dedicated to the situation in the occupied territories of Ukraine, as he wrote on Facebook.
'I am grateful to the international partners and the leadership of the UN Secretariat for the firm solidarity with Ukraine and a call to strengthen the humanitarian aid to alleviate the effects of Russia’s destructive aggression,' Poroshenko wrote.
He urged the Kremlin 'to cease its brutal aggression in Donbas, to refuse from arms deliveries to the occupied territories and stop the obstruction of Minsk Agreements'.
'Moscow has to refuse from conduction of fake 'local elections' on the occupied Donbas in November; it’s illegal, it’s another example of Russia’s subversive activity,' the statement says.
At the UN session, eight EU member states urged the Russian authorities to cease the preparation to the illegal elections on Ukraine’s occupied territories. The statement of the countries says that the elections contradict with Minsk Agreements and violate the Ukrainian legislation.
