Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, stands for the cancellation of the collateral for corrupt officials who committed felonies. He said it on June 8 at the meeting with the students of Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.
“Today, the struggle against corruption in our country can be compared with fishing – caught, held, took a picture and let go…To hold is not enough for today. My principled position is the following – every sentence has to reach the court. The bribe taker has to appear on the dock,” the President stated.
According to him, the law enforcement agencies are complaining that the cases are being prolonged in the courts.
“There is a restrictive measure for the corrupt officials – mostly, in the form of the cash collateral. I am totally convinced that such measure has to be canceled when it comes to grave corruption offenses. As these are felonies extremely dangerous for the society,” he stressed.
Earlier, on June 7 Ukraine’s Parliament voted for the bill on the creation of a Supreme Anti-Corruption Court. 315 MPs supported the decision.
