President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko supports the draft bill which will help omit the legislative vacuum and prolong the transition period until the State Bureau of Investigation is ultimately formed, as he said in his speech for the professional holiday of Ukraine’s prosecution.
“I undoubtedly support the draft law the aim of which is to omit the legislative vacuum and extend the transition period until the State Bureau of Investigation is ultimately formed,” he said.
Poroshenko also phrased his hope that the best investigators of the prosecution will over time move to work for the new agency.
As we reported earlier, starting Nov.20 the Prosecutor General’s Office has lost its right to start investigations against top officials, as it is to be in the jurisdiction of the State Bureau of Investigation.
However, the State Bureau of Investigation isn’t working yet, and this creates a legislative loophole under which new criminal procedures against the high-ranking Ukrainian politicians can’t be started.
