We highly raise our national flag and bow our heads in the memory of those who under its sky-blue and golden colors gave their lives for Ukraine, for its freedom, for honor, glory, for the people. This year is the hundred-year anniversary when Ukrainian national revolution of 1917 began. Our blue-yellow flag became the symbol of the Ukrainian People's Republic, later - the West Ukrainian People's Republic. And it was under this flag that on the Sophia Square on January 22, 1919 there was a historical union of both young states into a single catholic country,” said Poroshenko raising the flag.
As it was reported earlier Ukraine celebrates National Flag Day on August 23. The Flag Day precedes the Independence Day on August 24.
