‘What we were dreaming about…It would be nice to have a new law on diplomatic service. The law that provides the proper rights to the Ukrainian diplomat, the law that delegate the authorities to the Ukrainian diplomat, the law that provides the necessary protection to the Ukrainian diplomat and that solves a number of the social issues for the Ukrainian diplomat because the state should treat the Ukrainian diplomat as a soldier,” he said.
The President emphasized that the law encourages creativity, restraint and focus for victory in diplomats.
“Today is a holiday – the law was submitted for my sign from the parliament,” he said.
Poroshenko reminded that the EU visa-free regime is the civilized choice of the Ukrainian nation and that the biometric Ukrainian passport enters TOP 30 of world passports.
“Let me congratulate one more time on today’s big date. I am sure that this day will enter the history of the Ukrainian diplomacy and will be the important state of the development of the Ukrainian state. I thank everyone, thank the diplomatic service of Ukraine. Glory Ukraine!” the president said.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the draft law #7322 “On diplomatic service” in April 2018. 276 MPs voted in the affirmative.
The bill introduces the categories of diplomatic posts. “A” category – is a Foreign Minister, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine with a residence in Kyiv, a Permanent Representative of Ukraine to an international organization, Ukraine’s Representative to an international organization, Chief of Ukraine’s Mission at an international organization.
On May 4, Poroshenko vetoed the law on the diplomatic service adopted by the Verkhovna Rada.
