Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, expressed gratitude to the U.S. for the statement about Crimea’s annexation and urged other states to support such declaration. The respective post was published on the President’s Facebook page.
“I welcome Washington’s historic statement on non-recognition of Russia’s attempts to annex the Ukrainian Crimea. It is a good answer to Kremlin’s hybrid provocations after Helsinki,” Poroshenko wrote.
He expressed gratitude to Trumps’ Administration for “uncompromising position concerning the support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity in the internationally recognized borders”.
The President stressed that “Crimea’s belonging to our state is out of the question – it was not, is not and can not be a matter of compromise”.
Petro Poroshenko has also called Ukraine’s partners for supporting “Pompeo’s Declaration”.
“Our mutual strategy is to move from non-recognition policy to de-occupation policy. We will make Russia stop the aggression and respect the international law. Crimea is Ukraine!” the Head of the State concluded.
Earlier, Mike Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, stated that the U.S. would never recognize Crimea’s annexation and would continue insisting on the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
