The pinnacle of crime has been overcome in Ukraine. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko told this in a ceremony celebrating the second anniversary of the National Police, broadcasted by 112.UA Channel.
“It’s too early to say that we achieved a fundamental change in fighting crime in all of its forms. First of all, those crimes that pose threat to the life and health of people, the safety of our citizens… But the good news is, the negative pinnacle of crime, caused by a difficult social and economic situation, the influence of war and simultaneous transformation of law enforcement system, has been overcome,” the president said.
Poroshenko also emphasized, that the number of organized groups and criminal organizations, whose activity was prevented by the police in the first half of 2017, already exceeds the previous year’s numbers.
“Compared to last year, the amount of serious bodily harm crimes, rape, robberies, theft and fraud, as well as intentional homicide, has been reduced. Regretfully, though, there are some crimes that have a huge public resonance, and cast shadow over any positive statistics. Positive signals are just the first steps on the way, where we have no right to stop,” he added.
As it was reported earlier, today Ukraine celebrates the second anniversary of the new National Police.
