President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko ordered Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin to finish the negotiations with NATO on the implementation of the special trust fund that will provide the safe exploitation and effective security of the ammunition depots as Interfax-Ukraine reported.
“I order the Defense Minister and Foreign Minister to urgently finish the negotiations with NATO on the creation and implementation of the special trust fund that will provide the safe exploitation and effective security of the ammunition depots,” Poroshenko said.
He expressed the hope that in the nearest future the proper programs will be implemented.
“I would strongly ask to provide the financing in the full volume on the ammunition depots defence program. Yes, it is not enough but this year we can fulfil every financing in the full volume, I mean, on the provision of the perimeter, construction of the depots, and transportation of the munitions,” he said.
Reportedly, an explosion on the sixth armoury occurred in Ichnia, Chernihiv region on October 9.
The air-space within 30 km is shut down, traffic and railway movement are stopped due to the emergency situation.
Ukraine’s Defence Ministry reports that as of 7 am, October 9, the intensity of the explosions was 2-3 explosions per second.
Reportedly, the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region opened a criminal proceeding on the case of explosions on the ammunition depot in Ichnia.
Later the State Emergency Service reported that over 12,000 people were evacuated from Ichnia and the adjacent localities within the radius of 16 kilometers. Blasts of various degree of intensity are still heard there.
