The final revision of the National Security Bill provides parliamentary control of SBU work. Poroshenko stated that on the test site in Kyiv during the celebrations dedicated to the Security Service of Ukraine, broadcasted by 112 Ukraine.
“The final revision of the National Security Bill provides control of SBU work by the civil parliament. It is important, as the Bill has to correspond with NATO standards, and our strategic aim is to become NATO member state,” Poroshenko said.
Earlier, Petro Poroshenko introduced the Bill to the Verkhovna Rada on February 28.
Parliamentary representatives stressed the priority of the Bill, which will make Ukraine closer to NATO standards and provides a reform of the State Security sector. The USA insisted on this Bill to be adopted earlier.
Yet, EU and NATO criticized Ukraine’s Bill on National Security. Svitlana Zalishchuk, Ukrainian people’s deputy, published a letter by EU representative in Ukraine, USA Ambassador in Ukraine, the Head of NATO delegation in Ukraine and the Chairman of EUAM Ukraine, where the Bill is criticized. They stressed that the series of articles in the Bill contradicts the practice of EU and NATO.
