Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko and the Executive Director of General Electric Transportation company Rafael Santana discussed on Monday meeting in Kyiv the perspectives of cooperation in the sphere of modernization of Ukrainian railway. This was reported by the president’s press service.
"The parties noted a strong interest in strengthening the effective cooperation between Ukrzaliznytsia and General Electric Transportation, primarily in updating the locomotives, in order to promote the development and modernization of the Ukrainian railway in accordance with the best international standards," the press service said.
Poroshenko assured in his readiness to promote mutually beneficial cooperation with General Electric Transportation, which is aimed at strengthening the transport, transit and export potential of Ukraine. In addition, the sides discussed the development of cooperation with the American side for a strategic perspective.
The interlocutors noted that the existing positive climate in political relations between Ukraine and the United States, as well as progress in the reforms create a favorable ground for active involvement of leading American companies in Ukraine.
As it was reported earlier Ukrainian government finished negotiations with American company General Electric Transportation as to the programme of renovating the locomotives of Ukrainian Railways.
It is expected that the agreement on strategic 7-year partnership will be signed before the end of 2017. In the framework of this cooperation, the usage of Ukraine’s capacity should grow by 40%.
Moreover, the agreement foresees that the manufactured in Ukraine parts that correspond to GE’s standards will be used in other projects of the company in other countries.
