The President of Ukraine congratulated Alexander Van der Bellen on the telephone with his win in the Presidential elections in Austria that took place on December 4. This was reported on site of Presidential Administration.
Poroshenko noted that shares the position of Van der Bellen concerning the importance of maintaining strong European Union, and urged him to continue the consolidated EU policy to counter Russian aggression against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
Poroshenko also expressed hope for cooperation within the OSCE during the presidency of Austria in 2017 and noted the important role of the organization in countering Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Poroshenko invited the newly elected President of Austria for an official visit to Ukraine at a convenient for him time.
Earlier it was reported that Francois Fillon, Marine Le Pen, and Jean-Luc Mélenchon stand for lifting anti-Russian sanctions, restoration of economic relations with the Kremlin, regardless of further Russian aggression.
