Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko congratulates Crimean Tatars with Day of Flag, reported the presidential press service.

 “Crimean Tatars’ flag became the inalienable symbol of unity, continuity of generations and the centuries-old struggle of the Crimean Tatars for their freedom,” the message says.

Also, the press service noted that Crimean Tatars returning after deportation to their historic land, showed the world the strength of spirit, revived original tradition of self-governance, national symbols.

"One homeland and common goal - the return of the Crimea, temporarily annexed by the enemy, makes the Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars even closer. Despite all the difficulties, we are all confident that soon our flags will be proudly fluttering in the free Ukrainian Crimea, "the message said.

This flag was first established by Kurultai council of Crimean Tatars in 1917, right after the February Revolution. It was renewed on June 30, 1991 after Ukraine became independent.

As it was reported earlier on Monday Crimean Tatars celebrate the Day of Flag. The blue flag with tamga, the emblem of Crimean Tatars, was first flown in 1917.
