President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko harshly criticized the idea of some politicians on surrendering Donbas. In particular, during the celebrations on occasion of Unity Day in Ukraine, which was broadcast by "112 Ukraine" TV channel, the head of state said that squandering territories is inappropriate.
"It is sad to talk about this on Unity Day, but we have the political forces which in a very polished way suggest abandoning Donbas ... I want to address this question to politicians: Gentlemen, have you collected these territories to squander them?" President said.
Poroshenko noted that these political forces are calling "to behave with the people of the occupied areas as if they were not already our Ukrainian citizens."
"This strategy will certainly not lead to peace. Russia’s target is not Donetsk or Luhansk, Russian goal is the whole of Ukraine, and not only the Crimea and Sevastopol," the president said.
Ukraine marks Unity Day today, President Poroshenko took part in the solemn celebration on the occasion.
As it was reported earlier, MP Nadiya Savchenko claimed that releasing Donbas from Russia-backed rebels by means of peace is only possible at the cost of giving up Crimea – at least, temporarily.
