President Petro Poroshenko and the leadership of the Armed Forces discussed the implementation of the law On the specifics of the state policy on ensuring state sovereignty of Ukraine on the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The President told about it during the hearing of the Obolon court of Kyiv, where he testified for the prosecution in the case of ex-President Yanukovych’s state treason.
“This morning, there was a meeting with the leadership of the Armed Forces on the issue of implementing the recently signed law. Literally in the next few days, very urgently, we have to restructure the management of the state defence in the East, by creating an operational HQ etc.,” the President said.
At the same time, he didn’t talk about the details of the discussion.
Last month, the Ukrainian parliament passed the law about the reintegration of Donbas, defining the legal status of certain areas of Donbas and Luhansk regions as 'the occupied territories'. The official date of the beginning of the occupation is February 20, 2014. Russia is considered responsible for numerous human rights violations in the occupied territories.
President Poroshenko signed this law on Feb. 20, specifying that it doesn’t contradict the Minsk agreements.
